Twenty-Seventh Amendment (1992)

When Congress raises officials’ salaries, a general election must be completed before the raise goes into effect. This amendment was among the twelve originally proposed by James Madison in 1789, though at the time it failed to be ratified by the required number of states and did not become part of the Bill of Rights.
